Nick also directed Alan Ayckbourn's TIME OF MY LIFE and JOKING APART for the company. Other acting appearances for the company include TREASURE ISLAND (Squire Trelawney). He followed this production by adapting Robert Frost's NORTH OF BOSTON, which he directed both in Cambridge and Edinburgh. His adaptation of THE MOONSTONE was premiered by the company in December 2003; in it he played Begbie, Herncastle, Dr Candy, Old Ablewhite, Mrs Yolland and A Stationmaster. Nick also directed the 2004 Bawds Drama Festival production WHERE PEOPLE PERFORM and DICKENS' CHILDREN (which he also devised) for the Bawds Edinburgh Festival Fringe production the same year, and (in 2006) A LITTLE BRIEF AUTHORITY, which he adapted from MEASURE FOR MEASURE. In addition to this Nick adapted Christopher Marlowe's DOCTOR FAUSTUS which was presented under the Bawds banner at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Nick's latest stage adaptation for the company was Charles Dickens' NICHOLAS NICKLEBY. Nick is a successful playwright and author. His published stage plays include SOUR GRAPES AND ASHES, DON'T BLAME IT ON THE BOOTS, ZARTAN, RECEIVE THIS LIGHT, THE LOOPHOLE, NOT BOBBY, EASY STAGES, DISTRACTED GLOBE, THE DROITWICH DISCOVERY,GHOST WRITER, ROUND THE WORLD WITH CLASS SIX, THE LAST BREAD PUDDING, OFFICE SONG, DOMBY DOM, SECRETS, THE NATIVITY LETTERS, WAITING FOR NESBIT, MUSIC LOVERS and THE FROZEN FIELDS. His full-length play TOUCH WOOD was was premiered at The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough.
A number of his plays have appeared at the Edinburgh Festival, including STRAIGHTENING PICTURES, OUT OF THE ROSE GARDEN, BRIGHT GLADE - TALES FROM TOLSTOY, ACKFORD'S MONSTER, SHY and CRITICAL CONDITION. Nick has also written over 20 plays for BBC Radio 3, 4 (the most recent being WITNESS) and 5 as well as a number of television scripts for DOCTORS, HOLBY CITY BORN AND BRED and EASTENDERS. Nick was the winner of the BBC Peter Tinniswood Award for Best Radio Play of 2005. His many radio plays include WITNESS and the successful Radio 4 series ON MARDLE FEN and HOLDING BACK THE TIDE.
In 2008 Nick became a Patron of Bawds.
